About Amherst
Amherst was chartered on 18 January 1760 and had 11,753 residents at the 2020 census. The Souhegan River, an east-flowing tributary of the Merrimack, passes through the southern part of town, and Beaver Brook drains the middle and runs through the main village.
The Amherst Village Historic District is on the National Register, and it is one of the better preserved village centers in this part of the state. The town grew into the Greater Boston orbit after the Second World War and is now decidedly affluent, with a median household income well above the state average.
Sitting between Nashua and Milford on Route 101, it is a commuting town with money and land. That combination shows up in the work. Amherst projects tend to be larger, more carefully detailed, and more likely to include finished space above the bays than jobs in neighbouring towns.
