Hollis was incorporated on 3 April 1746 and covers around 32 square miles right next to Nashua, with 8,342 residents at the 2020 census. The Nashua River runs through the southeastern part of town on its way in from Pepperell.
It was farmland for most of its history and a good deal of it still looks the part: apple orchards, corn, pumpkins and mixed vegetable ground. What has changed is who lives here. Median household income is among the highest in the state, and while a little over half of working residents are employed locally, close to a third commute out of state.
