About Northwood
Northwood was incorporated in 1773, having separated from Nottingham, and covers around 30 square miles of Rockingham County with 4,641 residents at the 2020 census. It sits roughly halfway between Concord and the seacoast, which is the position that has defined it.
It is a lake town. Northwood Lake, Bow Lake, Pleasant Lake and half a dozen others give it nine bodies of water in total, with a mix of seasonal and year-round houses around them. That mix matters for building, because a camp converted to year-round use is a different proposition from a house built for it.
US Route 4 runs the length of the town and links its four historic districts. The road is well known locally for its antique shops, enough of them that the stretch has a reputation, and between those and the lakes Northwood does a steady trade as a place people come to rather than pass through.
