About Mont Vernon
Mont Vernon was incorporated in 1803 after separating from Amherst, and covers around 17 square miles with 2,584 residents at the 2020 census. It sits on high ground between Milford to the south and Amherst to the east.
That elevation gave the town an unexpected second life. From the late 1890s it became a summer resort, drawing Bostonians up for the air and the views, and at one point five substantial summer hotels operated here. They are gone now, but the hilltop village character they were built around has survived.
It has been a quiet residential town since the Second World War. For garage work, the two things that matter are the terrain, which is genuinely hilly by the standards of southern New Hampshire, and the village character, which rewards a building that looks like it belongs.
