About Bow
Bow was incorporated in 1727 and takes its name from the bend, or bow, in the Merrimack River that forms its northeastern boundary. It covers around 28 square miles of Merrimack County and had 8,229 residents at the 2020 census.
It sits immediately outside Concord, which gives it the useful combination of being a couple of minutes from the state capital and not being in it. The Merrimack Station coal plant operated here for decades before closing permanently in September 2025, with plans since to convert the site to clean energy.
Bow is primarily residential and comfortably so. Lots have room, the housing is largely postwar and later, and most of the garage work we do here is about building properly rather than squeezing something in.
