About Chester
Chester was founded in 1719 by settlers from Portsmouth and Hampton, and incorporated on 8 May 1722 under the name Cheshire. It is one of the older towns in Rockingham County, covering 26 square miles with 5,232 residents at the 2020 census.
It used to be considerably larger. Candia was set off from it in 1763, Hooksett took a piece in 1822, and Auburn took another in 1845. What is left is a rural, residential town that has held onto its character better than most places this close to Manchester and Derry.
Housing here is a mix of genuinely old properties around the town center and postwar and later builds on larger parcels further out. That split matters for garages. An addition beside a two hundred year old house is a careful job with real constraints; a detached build on five acres is a different project entirely, and we do both.

Avoiding that is mostly about restraint and about detail. Matching the roof pitch matters more than matching the siding colour. Window proportions matter more than window count. Keeping the ridge line of the garage below the ridge line of the house is usually right, even when it costs a little headroom upstairs.
