About Greenville
Greenville is one of the smallest municipalities in New Hampshire, covering just 6.9 square miles with 1,974 residents at the 2020 census. It was part of Mason until 1872, when the village that had grown up around the mills was incorporated as a town in its own right. Before that it was known simply as Mason Village.
The Souhegan River is the reason it exists. The Columbian Manufacturing Company was established here in 1826 to produce cotton and woollen goods, powered by the river, and the town built itself around that industry. Routes 31, 45 and 123 meet here, and Mason and New Ipswich are next door.
It is a compact place. Unlike the sprawling rural towns nearby, Greenville is a real village with houses close together on a small footprint, which makes it one of the more constrained places we build and one where the siting question genuinely matters.

A mill village is a dense thing. Houses here were built for people walking to work at the Columbian mill, close together on small lots, and that is still the shape of the town center.
Which means Greenville is one of the few places in our service area where the honest answer is sometimes that a garage will not fit the way you hoped.
